If you request an item that we do not have (by filling out a purchase suggestion), we will make every effort to purchase and add it to our collection. If we can't purchase the item we will try to borrow it from another library system, whether it is across the state or across the country. This process is managed by our Interlibrary Loan department (ILL), and generally takes between 4 and 8 weeks.
This department does not accept direct requests for materials. In order to receive an item through Interlibrary Loan, you must fill out a purchase suggestion. Generally speaking, we pursue Interlibrary Loan as a last resort, when we cannot acquire the item in any other way.
Interlibrary Loan materials almost always arrive in the mail. They come with special paperwork tucked inside, which we ask you to keep and return with the item. You may return the item in the mail or to your local library.
The terms of usage for Interlibrary Loan material are up to the lending library system. There may be late fines attached to an item, or there may be a rule that you can only use the material in your local library. You must contact our Interlibrary Loan department to renew items or report lost or damaged ILL material.
