Check out nature with these backpacks!

Backpacks loaded with everything you need to explore nature are coming to a library near you!

After testing out the backpack program at public libraries in Wenatchee and Winthrop over the summer, we are now expanding the program to include our entire library district. Libraries that will be receiving backpacks in the next couple of weeks are Cashmere, Chelan, Coulee City, Curlew, East Wenatchee, Entiat and Ephrata.

While they won't be readily available at every library, the backpacks can be requested from any of the 30 libraries in the district. Just request one from your librarian and it will be sent to the branch for pick up.

The backpacks contain binoculars, a nature book, compass, measuring tape, trail maps, magnifying glass, identification cards and colored pencils to write and draw on your own journal template. You may keep your journal template when you return the backpack to your local library.

"The goal of the nature backpacks is to get our library patrons out the door to explore nature," said Heather Inczauskis, STEM outreach technician for North Central Regional Library. "Our backpacks are filled with tools for learning what nature has to offer. There is so much knowledge to be gained in the natural world around you."

We currently have just over 50 backpacks that can be checked out.

The backpacks can be checked out for two weeks and re-checked out if there is no waiting list. Children under the age of 16 will need a permission slip from their parent or guardian before checking out a backpack.
