The Return of the Bookmobile!
After a seven-month break due to Covid-19, NCW Libraries’ Community Bookmobile is coming out of storage and will begin limited services next week.
Starting Tuesday, Oct. 13, the bookmobile will begin making weekly stops in the communities of Orondo, Plain, George and Wilson Creek. It will offer curbside pickup of library materials that were ordered online or by phone, a drop-off box to return library materials, free craft and STEM kits for children and teens, and will serve as an internet hot spot for anyone needing to use wifi.
The bookmobile schedule, for now, will be:
- George, by the Fire Department: Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Orondo, by the Post Office: Tuesdays, 2 to 4 p.m.
- Plain, by Plain Hardware: Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Wilson Creek, by City Hall: Tuesdays, 10 a.m. to noon
Because of Covid-19 restrictions, no one will be permitted inside the bookmobile to browse materials at this time.
"The Bookmobile team is thrilled to be back out serving our rural communities. We're using the new curbside method to help extend access to NCW Libraries' amazing collection of books, DVDs, and other resource," said Bookmobile Outreach Manager Luke Ellington.
Before the pandemic shut down library services last spring, the library district’s two bookmobiles made regular weekly visits to schools, retirement communities, rural residential areas, and other locations, as well as appearing in community parades, festivals and events. Library staff are currently working with schools and senior facilities to slowly return some of those services, include book delivery and pickup, where it is safe to do so.
